Jessica Simpson at Cowboys’ game
Associated Press (AP)
IRVING, Texas - Don’t blame the Jessica Jinx this time.
One month after fans considered her attendance the reason for a bad game by her boyfriend, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, the pop singer-actress wasn’t believed to be at Texas Stadium on Sunday when Dallas was upset 21-17 by the New York Giants.
Then again, folks might have a new reason for blaming her — those touchy-feely pictures of the couple cavorting in Mexico last weekend that surfaced soon after and created quite a stir.
“I’ll take the blame and I’ll take the criticism here,” Romo said. “That’s why we’re put in these positions.”
There were plenty of blonde women in the stands wearing pink Romo jerseys Sunday, but the woman who made them famous wasn’t believed to be among them. Her publicist said earlier in the week she was working on a new album and would not be at the game.
On Dec. 16, Simpson proudly displayed her shirt to television cameras during the Cowboys’ game against Philadelphia. Romo injured his throwing thumb and had one of his worst games of the season that day. What they didn’t know — or didn’t care about — was that she’d attended other Cowboys games and he played just fine.
Then came the fuss about Romo’s trip to Mexico leading up to the Giants game.
“I don’t live with regrets,” Romo said. “I’m content in my own skin. If I try and be a good person and I’m strong enough in my faith, then I feel like I’m doing it the right way.”
Romo’s teammates believed the trip was a non-issue — especially star receiver Terrell Owens.
Owens, who jokingly piled on those blaming Simpson for Romo’s woes after the Eagles game, broke down in tears when he met with reporters after the game.
“This is not about Tony. You guys can point the finger at him, you can talk about the vacation, and if you do that, it’s really unfair,” Owens said, his voice cracking. “It’s really unfair. That’s my teammate. That’s my quarterback. You guys do that, it’s not fair. We lost as a team. We lost as a team, man.”

The world of internet is experiencing a new high in the arena of online gaming especially after the induction of Flash and Java into browsers. While online gaming started with subscription rates for members, today it has become so popular that many sites have offers for free, though a paid member has access to more and better services.
This has given rise to many gaming links and websites wooing surfers to try out their skills. Many sites have well planned gaming choices that are attractive and also safe to use. For instance, addicting-games.org.uk is a site where a plethora of games that cater to a variety of age groups and ability levels are available. What is more, it offers a wonderful chance to mingle with other members as well through chat windows and discuss game strategies besides striking up a lasting friendship.
Though online games have been frowned upon for its addictive side effects, it is touted as one of the best ways of improving your game skills coupled with social skills. An online gamer often starts with a challenge against a programmed computer. This not only enables the gamer to sharpen his own skills but also to learn new tactics in the game. Later, when the gamer is pitched against another gamer, there is further opportunity to try out these skills, learn more and compare oneself to others, and all this from the comfort of your home. It is an arena where every player has no nationality or boundary or age limit or physical ability. All that is required is deftness with the mouse and keyboard and a zest to play!
Online gaming has become so popular that it is an essential part of many social networking sites where meeting people and making friends over a board of chess or a game of football has become a favourite pastime. Playing against an experienced, champion in the game can be a valuable lesson in picking up expert advice to improve strategies of the game. Playing against another person from another part of the world can initiate a sort of “mouse-pal ship” with meaningful exchanges of cultural information as well!!!
Online gaming is a global phenomenon and is here to stay. It is perhaps, the key to bringing about a universal union of human beings and wean people away from differences of caste, creed or religion, uniting them into peaceful earthlings.

How To Control Your Online Gaming Addiction
Author: Jon Caldwell
Aside from the risks of the game is the possibility of scams and frauds. The internet reaches far and wide and it is no wonder that some have found ways to cheat us out of the money
that we've worked hard for.
Therefore, you should know if the online casino you're entering is legitimate. Modern technology can make this a difficult task. Scammers need only to copy the layouts of legitimate casinos and adopt them as their own, including memberships and certifications. Logos and banners are very easy to copy (ever hear of photoshop?) so be wary of these.
The best way to make sure that you don't get scammed is to only go to online casinos approved by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. If you get invited to a site you are not familiar with, look up their certifications and make sure that these are legitimate. You can do this by doing a check of the authority certifying the site, checking with the Kahnawake commission, or even "Googleing"(tm) the site name to find reviews. You can also do a quick search of online gaming organizations' memberships. Scammers don't usually take the time to become members of these organizations because they are usually up and running for only short periods of time before they shut down one site and move on to the next.
Once you have found a legitimate site, you still have the risks inherent in the game itself. There are two ways to deal with these risks. The first way is to learn by doing. It's an excellent way to learn, but it's also the most expensive. It can be so expensive that you give up before you really get started. A better way is to read books by various experts and pros to learn basic strategy and theory. There are also forums you can join to meet with and learn from other players. Whatever your gaming interest, there's a forum for you.
Similar advantage can be also achieved in poker. To the position advantage in poker we can refer the factors of your position with relation to your opponents, the availability of varied membership and the number of opponents continuing the tournament, your aggression, the size of opponents' stacks and so on. From all of the arts of poker the most important is the creation and realization of position advantage. Here it is as important as in chess.
The conclusion is that an intellectual analytic effort is present both in chess and in poker but they are not alike as the position advantage differs in quality.
The third type of an intellectual effort is connected with the analysis of the part of a game situation which is not connected with the game process itself. This type includes taking into account the psychological peculiarities of the duel.
Strictly speaking, this psychological element is not as widely used in chess, mainly because of the game information which is fully open to both opponents.
In poker the psychological element is very important indeed. It provides almost the half of success of the player. The restricted type of information in poker makes the players only deducing it and it can be done only by observing your opponent. And here you meet a great chance to misinform or manipulate him or create the psychological pressure upon him, and etc. We can name at least three aspects of a psychological element that are often used by experienced players.

Strange New Ways To Combat Your Internet Addiction!
Author: Recovering Internet Addict
I am addicted to the Internet. I am a busy working parent and still I find the time to check my e-mail, chat with my friends in Yahoo Instant Messenger, read news, forums and on and on.
I need "to know" and I need "to have" more than ever before. I want to get my latest news. I want to spread the news to my on-line and off-line friends, who, I might add, are doing exactly the same. I need to get a new book or ... shoes or ... gadget just because it is there and easy to buy, no need to drive and look for parking at the mall. Don't you love these FREE shipping offers? All this is in addition to already being entertained on the Internet watching YouTube, listening to iTunes etc. Do you do the same?
It is not hard to find out if you're addicted to the Internet. Do you find that when you get online you're frequently surprised by the amount of time that has passed? Do you find yourself staying home instead of enjoying a beautiful day outside because you'd rather use the Internet?
A recent study from Stanford University School of Medicine found that more than one in eight Americans show signs that they could be suffering from some form of internet addiction.
How do you cure this problem? Google "Internet Addiction" and log on to a bunch of websites? Instant Message other sufferers? Join an Internet support group? Or buy self-help books from our favorite on-line store (after performing an extensive price comparison)? You might as well offer a drink to an alcoholic trying to cure his addiction.
In China, parents send their children as young as 12 to the first officially licensed clinic for Internet addiction at the Beijing Military Region Central Hospital. That is after their kids skip school to spend time playing online games and visiting chat rooms. These kids are admitted suffering from depression, nervousness, panic, fear, agitation, unwillingness to interact with others, sleep disorders, the shakes and numbness in their hands. The daily schedule at the center begins at 6 a.m. and includes electric shock treatment and the administration of intravenous drips to "adjust the unbalanced status of brain secretions".
This sounds a little extreme to me. How about a gentler American way of approaching this problem? How about using a new high-tech device called SnoopStick?
SnoopStick is a very small USB flash drive device that will allow someone to fully monitor and limit your access to the Internet from any other computer on the Internet. Just run the set-up program on your computer then unplug the device and give it to your trusted friend. Your friend will plug Snoop Stick to any Windows-based computer (in her home or office) and at any time will be able to monitor your Internet use and disable your access to the Internet if needed. You can also specify the times when you will be able to access Internet and SnoopStick will enforce this schedule.
Stay aware, alert, and in control of your Internet with Snoop Stick.

Are Video Game Addictions for Real?
Author: Jessica Bradbury
At one time or another we have all said, "I am addicted to…" The difference between the person that says that and an addict is that that person is admitting that they know their behavior is excessive.
The truth is they aren't addicted, and they can go with out what ever the activity or substance is, but an addict can't.
When an addict doesn't get the substance or activity that they are addicted to they are unable to function and/or have unfavorable behavior changes.
This is true even when we are talking about video game addictions. When it comes to video games, many worry about the younger generations.
Our children and the countless hours that they spend in front of the television with the technical umbilical cord feeding there need.
Is your child addicted to video games? Is it even a real addiction? Here we will run down the signs to look for to see if your child is addicted. Unfortunately video game addiction is real.
The main difference between the video game addiction and an addiction to a drug is that researchers have not been able to pinpoint the biological aspect of the video game addiction. What they do know is that when a person gambles their dopamine levels are elevated.
Dopamine is naturally produced by the body, and the way it works on the body is that it is calming, it makes you feel better. Most researchers consider games to be in the same category as gambling.
However they point out that there is more to the addiction then just the brain response, there is always a psychological response as well.
As with alcohol addiction, a video game allows that player to escape from their real life and take on the life of what ever character they are playing. On top of the escape that the video game offers, it also provides the player with a sense of control.
This control can be a key component as to why children are so easily addicted to video games, because it is something that they can control what happens in.
We all remember what is was like to be a young teen, when all we wanted was to be able to control our own lives and make our own decisions, and while as adults we know that we weren't capable of making the best decisions for ourselves then, at that age we thought we were. Video games give children the ability to make their own decisions.
So what harm do the video games really do to our children? Consider the fact that if your child is playing video games for 4 and 5 hours a day, he is not socializing with other kids his age.
He probable isn't doing his homework and that also leaves no time for sports. These are elements of normal childhood development. With out them you increase the likelihood of ending up with a 22 year old male that is unable to communicate with others his age and has the intelligence of an 11 year old.
Are they addicted? Here are a few questions to ask:
1. Is the amount of time playing a game increasing?
2. Do thoughts of video games fill their heads even during other activity?
3. Are they playing video games to get away from something else in life that is going on?
4. Are they lying to you or their friend about how much time they spend playing video games?
5. Do they get irritable and grouchy when told it is time to stop playing or that they are not allowed anymore time?
If you answered yes to these most of these questions it is advised that you seek professional advice.
Video games themselves are not bad, many people can play video games without a problem, and understand that spending a lot of time playing video games is not an addiction.

The Rise of Computer Game Addiction
Author: Albert
In this day and age, with hardcore chemicals being the scourge of civilized life, heroin, cocaine, vicodin, all the classes of drugs that are man-made and not naturally produced or even those that are natural, it seems silly to talk of addiction to a computer game. But it is neither silly nor trivial. Take heed!
The sheer popularity of these games, played on home computers, Xbox’s, Playstations, Gamecubes and other consoles, shows that this addiction does not affect everyone equally. Some people can play a game for an hour, then go back to work, or watch TV and not give a second thought to the game. Others play it 8 hours a day or more, forgoing meals, family, work, and daily chores.
The corporations that produce these games do not help with the problem, in fact they stoke the fires into roaring blazes. Clearly, they understand that there are millions of people who will forgo simple things in life to pay $10 a month to play on a game for objects and things that are intangible. So they feed the addiction, releasing new objects obtainable only in the online world, or releasing new add-on upgrades and expansion sets for another $50. The bottom line is money of course, they are corporations who are responsible to their shareholders, and no-one wants to blame them for the ruinous addiction they are causing. With ever larger online worlds entering the gaming fray (World of Warcraft, Everquest 2 …), it seems that this is a problem that will only increase.
Psychologists have labelled this as Computer Addiction or Internet Addictive Disorder, a problem very similar to Pathological Gambling or Compulsive Shopping, and sadly it does not just affect one person, but seeps into family life affecting those around the addicted. This is a real disorder, not imagined, and those afflicted need to seek professional help and more significantly, need the love, comfort and support of friends and family. Perhaps a little tough love is in order too, regulate the computer time, turn off your child’s playstation after they have played for an hour, get them involved in real world activities that have nothing to do with a computer.
This is not an American phenomena, or European, this is world-wide, and only getting worse. The Chinese have started camps for adolescents addicted to computers, in a land where nearly 15% of adolescents suffer from Internet Addiction Disorder according to the China Internet Information Center.

Video Game Addiction
Author: Cathy Peterson
For most of us, video games represent a pleasant break in the day and a source of some entertainment. However a consumer concern group is seeking to raise the understanding in the general public that computer games misuse posses a significant and growing source of addiction in our society. This addiction is real and threatens the lives of many adults and children. It is not limited to children and young adults but affects members of the population at all levels of society and many occupations. However, the biggest threat is to children because they are vulnerable and they may be unable to recover from a serious addition formed at a young age.
People with true video game addictions substitute playing them for normal interaction with friends and family, and the time spent playing them is excessive to the point of interfering with work or school. The time spent at this activity steadily increases as the addiction grows and ending play can bring about withdrawal symptoms of irritability and moodiness. Addictive individuals can spend and average of 70 or 80 hours a week playing these games, reserving little time for work, social life, school or even sleep.
The signs of an addiction in children are easy for a responsible parent to spot. The biggest symptom is the time spent on the computer playing games. Video game time should be monitored just like television watching and the parent must make certain that both activities take place after the normal activities such as family socializing, homework and chores have been satisfied. If a child falls asleep at school often, it may mean that he or she is using sleep time to pay computer games. The child may then lie about the cause of tiredness. The child may also be irritable when not on the computer playing games. If these symptoms are spotted, it is time for the parent to enlist the child's teachers, friend's parent and a professional to help the child overcome this problem.
Adults are harder to monitor but a boss who notices an employee asleep at work or failing performance will certainly discuss the reasons with the employee. It is unlikely that the employee will admit his activity since video game use is usually characterized by feelings of guilt. Friends who notice a person dropping out of activities and becoming irritable or sullen should become involved and discuss the possibility of this problem frankly with afflicted person. It is not acceptable to sit by and wait for the problem to pass. Video game addiction can advance to physical addiction and symptoms such as Carpal tunnel syndrome. Sleep problems, back and neck aches, dry eyes and an increasing failure to maintain personal hygiene. The video game addict has replaced his or her real world with the virtual reality of the game. This person needs all the interest and help friends and family can give him and probably a healthcare professional and support group as well to surmount this problem.
